Following reports from users in the UK and Italy that Inditherm
heating promotes grass growth even during winter, Inditherm is carrying out
detailed research into this to gain hard data on the effects of heating for
enhancing grass growth at each end of the growing season. In addition, the
research will be used to determine any additional benefits, such as overcoming
the detrimental effects of shade.
Inditherm has constructed a test bed at its plant in Rotherham that consists
of a number of different sections of turf, as well as an unheated control
section. This has been done in collaboration with PSD and Talbot Farms.
The test area contains a large number of temperature and moisture sensors,
enabling a three-dimensional model of the simulated pitch to be generated.
The rate of grass growth can be measured with each mowing, so that the
effects of heating can be determined. Once the data are gathered, Inditherm and
PSD will publish the data.
The research has already confirmed earlier findings that Inditherm heating
pads do not adversely affect drainage.
There is also a section dedicated to research on heating artificial surfaces
conforming to UEFA 3G (third generation) standards.
