Under-grass Heating for Golf Courses

Coloured blocks

Inditherm's under-grass heating system, using its patented conductive polymer technology (CPT), is ideal for heating golf course greens and tees or the driving range tee areas. It can help to extend the golfing season at both the front and back end by ensuring that these important playing areas remain frost free and in good condition. Early field tests also indicate that grass growth may be improved using Inditherm heating, giving an added bonus.

Inditherm heating systems consist of three main components:

  • Heating pads laid in a matrix under the playing surfaces.
  • The power distribution system, which delivers power at low voltage (50V) to the heating pads.
  • The control system, which ensures optimum effectiveness of the system whilst minimising power consumption. Each green or tee is controlled as an individual, independently controlled "Zone".

A typical championship golf course has about 11,000 m² (118,000 ft²) of greens and a similar area of tees. It is also possible to heat the tee-off area of the driving range, giving players the option of teeing off grass, rather than mats during cold weather periods. The Inditherm system can be custom designed to fit under each area, and can be installed to fit in with the course construction timetable.

With the Inditherm heating system there is no ongoing maintenance required to keep the system running; no pumps or boilers to maintain and insure. And the depth of the heating pads ensures that they do not get damaged during normal ground maintenance procedures, nor do they damage the grass roots from excess heat.
