Inditherm’s tank heaters and tank insulation systems are designed specifically for each installation and can be used for both internal and external applications.
The challenges of using conventional bulk storage heating solutions include the following:
- Temperature distribution in the tank can be uneven with trace heating, with hot and cold spots and potential burning of the product or the tank itself in the vicinity of the trace.
- Immersion heaters and internal heat exchangers do not provide even heating and may damage the product. In exterior tanks wet and windy weather can result in localised solidification of product that can then be difficult to re-liquidise.
- Hot water can be highly corrosive or erosive, leading to leaks after a relatively short time. This can contaminate the product or seriously disrupt production.
- Precise temperature control is technically challenging.
- Power consumption can be high, especially if tanks need to be heated.
- There are inherent health & safety risks associated with both trace and hot water.
Using Inditherm CPT to heat tanks solves these problems:
- The flat profile of Inditherm heating pads enables a lower transfer temperature than electrical alternatives, avoiding the danger of burning. Heat transfer is usually so efficient that only the lower parts of the tank actually need heating.
- The Inditherm control system, along with insulation, allow the contents of tanks to be controlled to within ±2°C, whatever the ambient temperature conditions. Users can vary tank temperatures, as required, allowing tank content changes and potentially reducing capital costs.
- Inditherm has already proven itself to have a long operating life; systems have now been operating in process industries for over 8 years, without problems.
